Using actinomycetes and some other bacteria as the host, we are trying to express useful genes, produce enzymes, and modify functions. We are also developing new host-vector systems and genetic engineering methods. We also analyze physiologically active substances such as antibiotics and their biosynthetic genes. We have constructed a P450 expression library containing more than 1000 genes, and have established a screening system for enzymes that hydroxylate specific substrate of interest.
